Oscar Gonzales
Backed by decades of experience and unwavering integrity, Oscar is the professional Harris County needs. He will end reckless spending, restore public safety, and reject divisive politics, protecting citizens from soaring taxes, rising crime, and policies eroding the county’s stability and future.
Meet Oscar Gonzales: The PRO-fessional Harris County Needs
Born in 1962 and raised in Houston’s historic 5th Ward/Tuffly Park neighborhood, Oscar Gonzales learned early the value of hard work, perseverance, and community. In the early 1970s, his family moved to the Heights, where he graduated from Reagan High School in 1980 — the start of a lifelong journey of service.
Rooted in a rich cultural heritage — with Mexican, Portuguese, and Native American ancestry from the Kickapoo tribe (and possibly the Karankawa) — Oscar connects deeply with Harris County’s diverse communities. Spanish was his first language, and today he speaks both English and Spanglish, building bridges across cultures and neighborhoods.
PRO-VEN Commitment to Community
Oscar’s service extends far beyond the badge. He has coached youth baseball, served as President of a Little League organization, and personally maintained baseball fields when bureaucracy got in the way. He has stood beside teens in crisis, guided families through the court system, and organized adoption day celebrations and graduations for children in the child protection system.
PRO-FESSIONAL Experience You Can Trust
In 1988, Oscar joined the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, launching a distinguished 30-year career in public service. He worked in nearly every division, including:
- 1301 Jail Operations
- Hospital Detail
- Executive Bureau
- Narcotics
- Criminal Court
- Civil Court
- Juvenile Court
- Family Court
- Protective Order Court
- Child Support Court
Retiring in 2018, Oscar left a legacy of leadership, integrity, and action. He’s not a career politician — he’s a lifelong public servant who knows how Harris County works, where it’s broken, and how to fix it.
PRO-TECTING Those Who Serve
As Vice President of the Mexican American Sheriffs Organization and a board member of the Harris County Sheriff’s Organization, Oscar fought for better pay, safer conditions, and respect for those who protect our communities — even when it meant standing up to Commissioners Court.
PRO-MISE for Harris County’s Future
Oscar is ready to take on the urgent challenges facing Harris County:
- PRO-TECTING Our Families – Restoring public safety and tackling rising crime head-on.
- PRO-VIDING Tax Relief – Ending reckless spending and lowering the burden on hardworking families.
